Companies Registry releases statistics for first half of 2015

The total number of local companies registered under the Companies Ordinance reached 1,279,819 at the end of June this year, up 7,126 from the corresponding figure at the end of 2014, according to statistics released by the Companies Registry today (July 12).

A total of 70,894 local companies were newly registered during the first half of 2015, among which 17,781 were incorporated online via the one-stop electronic company incorporation and business registration service at the e-Registry (www.eregistry.gov.hk).

The Registrar of Companies, Ms Ada Chung, said, "To mark the first anniversary of the commencement of the new Companies Ordinance, the Registry launched a full-scale electronic filing service on March 3, 2015, with a total of 84 forms now available via the e-Registry. The electronic service not only facilitates the reporting and disclosure of company information but also delivers efficiency improvements for companies.

"We are glad to see the smooth implementation of the new Companies Ordinance since March 2014, and that the business community has benefited from the new measures introduced under the Ordinance. We will continue to provide quality services for the incorporation and operation of companies in Hong Kong under the new Ordinance."

Regarding non-Hong Kong companies that have established a place of business in Hong Kong, 416 companies were newly registered in the first half of 2015, compared to 418 in the second half of 2014. The total number of registered non-Hong Kong companies reached 9,850 by the end of June 2015, up 4.43 per cent year-on-year.

The number of charges on assets of companies received for registration in the first half of this year was 10,013, down 5 per cent from 10,529 in the second half of 2014. The number of notifications of payment and releases received for registration in the first half of this year was 11,499, compared to 11,489 in the second half of 2014.

The number of documents delivered for registration during the first six months of 2015 was 1,323,914, compared to 1,313,158 in the second half of 2014.

A total of 1,943,310 searches of document image records were conducted through the Registry's electronic search services in the first half of 2015, an increase of 3.82 per cent when compared to the figure of 1,871,849 in the second half of 2014. A daily average of over 7,000 searches was conducted through the Registry's Company Search Mobile Service (www.mobile-cr.gov.hk), which was enhanced in December last year to provide searches on Directors' Index and Disqualification Orders' Index.
